You Bet, We're Open!

The Stille brothers at the Q & C on the highway there have put up a new public service sign board with solar powered lights and all. They haul it out on Sunday afternoons. In big fancy red letters it says, "You bet we're open!" Then a bit smaller it says, "with bathrooms." So, we're on there, the Quick & Cheap, the Co-op gas station and coffee house. Then it lists our Sunday hours. A public service sponsored by the Stille brothers.

Edna hasn't given me the buy order for liver yet. We usually firm up the week's menus on Sunday afternoon if you can hear yourself through the Loon County Church musicians whooping it up in the corner booth and tables.

Thursday there was the instance of the chocolate potatoes. Earl grabbed the wrong box from the store room when he was whipping the potatoes. He was supposed to get the milk crystals and he picked up the chocolate drink flakes instead. By the time he caught the mistake we had chocolate potatoes. Thought Edna was going to go through the roof but all she did was holler,"Earl, don't you have a sense of smell!" He said he was sorry and that he'd been thinking of Daisy. With Earl that might be a woman, a horse, or a pick up truck but it's not. It's his shaving mug. Earl Jones has a shaving mug named Daisy. I'm sure there's a story in that somewhere.

Edna said it was no problem about the mistake: Earl will grill potatoes for the meatloaf special. We'll chill the chocolate potatoes and sell them with whipped cream, cherries and chopped nuts to the junior high kids Saturday afternoon when they come in after soccer practice. "Those kids will eat anything just as long as they think it ain't healthy," says Edna.

Thanks for stopping,
Jenn
