So why am I here? Catching up is all. We closed right after the United Church Musicians left yesterday. Rowdy bunch if you ask me. Then toward evening we all went over to Maeve and Jay Lee's backyard for a cook out. You might say a bus man's holiday except that Jay Lee did all of the work. Earl said he wasn't about to wash paper plates anyhow. Then while the ladies toasted marshmallows, Jay Lee showed Earl his new chain saw. Edna said they were generally disturbing the peace.
That was Sunday and this morning, here I am in my "office" as the gang calls it. Actually, Earl & Edna moved the register down to the end of the counter by the deuce booth. Edna pulled a screen out of nowhere to block off the booth area and there you go. Instant office. Room to plug in the lap top and keep files. It's just everything you could want in a diner office. The screen is kind of Minnesota-Asian. It's like those screen paintings supposed to be in China where you start in a corner and walk your eyes along a path through all the panels except this screen has Minnesota scenes. I think someone who worked for Mr. Edward C. Slurry gave it to him. Or Ed paid him to paint it. I never got that one straight. But here it sits enough out of the isle to the rest rooms not to be a fire hazard and I, finally, have the private office Edna promised me.
Edna gave the go ahead to order a case of liver portions, but no clue as to when she's going to run L & O on the menu. We're going to open this evening around 4:00 PM for the travelers so I guess I should start taking care of business. Leaves here just beginning to turn. It must be autumn ahead of the calendar.
As always,
Jenn
