Memorial Day

About ten years ago Loon County opted out of the three day weekend for Memorial Day and we now hold our events on May 30th--whenever that happens. I kind of like it better when a holiday just sort of sneaks up on you in the middle of the week. Of course the post office closes on the federal day, but we all know they operation on federal time. That's what Edna says, and when she says it, it's not a compliment. Edna is short on those whether you spell it with an i or an e.

Sonny's off with her boyfriend Taylor. I think she's going to recruit him for the cafe. Edna gave her nod of approval and Taylor seems to be a pretty nice kid. He's what you'd expect any niece of Maeve's to pick in a boyfriend. Came in and helped out when I was off my feet a few weeks ago. Said I'd help fill shakers for the Sunday crowd.

And for all who serve or have served, we at the cafe remember.

I kinda agree with Jenn about having holidays on their true dates. Except the logistics of Memorial Day over a 3-day weekend make it easier on the women of the family. We're the ones who get to gather flowers from the yard and go decorate the family headstones, it seems. Now we can do that easier at the beginning of the long weekend and have plenty of time left to prepare food for when the family all arrives. And I sure do appreciate those VFW people who put flags at the graves. Thanks!
