Date Night

Saturday night, everybody loves Saturday night. That's how the song goes, doesn't it? Quiet in here and I just finished out the book for the week. Jenn Linquist with a date? You have to be kidding Maeve says she's got a cousin-in-law that's single and might like to met me. I don't know; I still think about the ex--great guy, just not one to stick around long. Every now and then he drifts back this way, visits the kids (and grandkids!), and we sort of, well, have a good time for awhile. Then he's off to I don't know where. Worked an oil rig once in some desert somewhere, then at a cattle ranch in Colorado, fishing boat off Gloucester, Massachusetts, drove a combine for harvest from Canada to almost Mexico. Always works and sends money. The man was just born to roam. He says he'll come back some day and settle down with me again if I still want him. Probably will, getting married is something I only ever wanted to do once.

Football game tonight so most of the gang is over at Vets Field either watchin' or workin' or both. Sonny came down from college and met up with her Taylor. Gosh, maybe they will see it through. So what am I doing in a closed restaurant on Saturday night? Well, after the game, about an hour, they'll bring the hot dog wagon back and offload. Guess we'll all feast on leftover hot chocolate, clean up, and laugh for awhile. I don't come back till around 9:30 so I help with the clean up. Saturday night with friends, you know, that's pretty darn good.

Well G.I.'s first attempt at baking was edible. We even sold most of the cornbread and G.I. Bridge was one excited kid. Too bad we didn't sell out but I don't think Arthur Bridge and George Frey could muster that many relatives. Heck, it tasted right. Edna says cornbread is so special that it's her break in recipe for the restaurant cook wanna-bees. That's her way of putting. Edna says that they buzz around the kitchen till they find out that cooking is hard work. G.I. has survived round one and Edna's wondering if she might make a cook out of him. "If he's real good," she says, "she might let him work in the dish area. Earl's also particular about who touches his machinery.

Thanks for stopping into the cafe. Hope you enjoy Saturday night too.
Jenn
