Hi All:
I know, what's all of this Boccie Days about? It started as a smart remark. The city council, all three of them and the mayor, were in talking about how we needed an annual celebration to bring more people into Loon Center. Maybe a historical re-enactment of an American Revolutionary War battle or something. The only problem with that is that there weren't any of those battles fought here. That was over east in places like Wisconsin or Ohio or somewhere. In fact nobody ever fought any battles here unless you count which Lutheran church had dibs on the first Sunday in October for an apple pie and ice cream social. None of the councilors thought that would be much worth re-enacting. It got a bit unchristian in the insult department but there wouldn't be a whole lot to see.
I thought they would come to blows over not deciding so I said, kind of off-hand, "How about Boccie Days?" Well, all four of them started smiling and imagining. It was a positively inspiring sight. Edna said we could cook up a special stew and biscuits for the occasion too. I never thought I was such a genius. Maybe I'll go down in the city chronicles as the Mother of Boccie Days. Meanwhile, our season is coming to a close. The Superintendent of Boccie, Marge, said that in the off season, I might want to work out a little with ping pong. That's to help you develop your touch.
Oh here comes the first of the coffee break crowd. Gotta run!
Jenn
