(It was) A Happy Fourth!

Hi Readers:

Well, they did that fool floating bonfire again with the fireworks and this time they got it right! Nobody wound up in Center Lake and the floating fire stayed floating. Gosh it's nice when things work out. The hot dog wagon did fine, especially the chili dogs, and people just plain had a good time. And would you believe, the county band gave an all 4th of July type music. When I got off from working the wagon, Lar and I sat on the pier and ate roasted peanuts like we did in high school.

By Monday morning I was ready to go back to reality. Tuesday has become drop ship day for, like it seems, every supplier you can think of. Today it was soap and cleaning supplies. Steel Coat on sale. Mr. Edward T. Slurry, Edna's husband-at-a-distance, sent in a restaurant equipment salesman to take measurements. Slurry Entertainment Enterprises did well on the citrus trail last winter so he's giving us a new sterilizer unit for the dish room. (Wish it came with a new floor. We got cracked tiles all over the place.)  You even get to pick the trim color for the dish and silver racks and Edna said we could vote on it. I like black and gray. Balloting begins Sunday and runs through the week, or whenever the sales rep guy shows up. They really know how to build excitement, these sales guys.

So far it's been a honey of a summer. People here seem to be staying in one piece. You know, there are those years when it's like people are forever wrapping their cars around power poles and putting their pick ups in ditches. This hasn't been that year and it's a nice, real nice, change.

Now look, it's past closing. Glad you could come into the cafe. Stay mellow.

Jenn
